8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher Course

Course Description:
Code Red Safety’s 8 Hour Hazwoper Course is offered to cover topics in the OSHA regulations that are specifically required and are set forth in 29 CFR 1910.120.  The course will also cover optional training recommended by OSHA.

The course covers training needed for individuals who have had training in the OSHA 40 hour or 24 Hour HAZWOPER within the last 12 months.  This is a refresher course only.  Topics include emergency procedures, hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, decontamination, air monitoring, worker safety, environment safety and more.

Pre-requisites:
Either a 24 or 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER class.

Learning Objectives:

  • Students are able to use Site Characterization to identify hazards that exist in the workplace and take steps to minimize or eliminate the found hazards.
  • Students will identify hazardous materials existent in the workplace and the possible methods, symptoms and preventative measures for the exposure. In addition understand the importance of a Medical Surveillance Program.
  • Students will understand the use of Material Safety Data sheets (MSDS) to identify and properly handle, store and clean-up hazardous materials
  • Students will be familiar  with solids, liquids, compounds and mixtures that may present flammable, explosive, chemical or radiological hazards
  • Students will understand the importance of personal protective equipment, (PPE), how to select theproper PPE and use it to limit hazardous exposure
  • Establish an effective Site Control Program to limit the risk of exposure to only those working in the hazardous work zone
  • Students will understand the principles of decontamination and procedures for treating workers in the event of hazardous contamination.
  • Toxicology principles will be studied and understood relating to different chemical exposures.

This course fulfills OSHA mandated 8 hour Hazwoper refresher training.  Further hands-on training might be necessary; please check with your company’s health and safety policy.

Seat Time:
This course has been approved for 8 hours of seat time.

Testing:
At the end of each section of the training, you will be given a 10 question quiz. Once you have successfully completed all of the sections, you must pass a final exam.  The exam is 25 questions long and will test your knowledge on information covered throughout the course. You will be given three chances to pass the final exam; you must have a score of at least 70% to pass this course.
